APOCALYPSE - Beauty and Horror In Contmporary Art

Publisher: Harry N. Abrams, 256 pages. Hardcover w/ slipcase. The successor to the controversial "Sensation" Exhibition shown at the Royal Academy of Arts, London - presents short retrospectives on fifteen contemporary artists, along with 200 color images of their works. The kitsch of Jeff koons, Mariko Mori, and Wolfgang Tillman provide superficial beauty, while the most obvious horror is Hell, Jake, & Dino Chapman's apocalyptic sculture comprising nine glass cases arranged in a swastika, containing 5,000 figurines of Nazis' and their torturers indulging in sadism. Norman Rosenthal, curator of the exhibition, contributes an introductory essay.
