Born in 1979, Ara DeRan Key grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, which the artist lovingly refers to as "a quiet serene city filled with good people and great southern food." When it comes to art, Key recalls, "One of my first encounters of discovering my gift was at the age of six. I would watch my mom draw various school projects for her 2nd grade classroom. Moreover, she was my first teacher in art." Later, Key attended Shades Valley High School in Irondale, Alabama where she took art as an elective her senior year. After high school, the artist attended Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama where she majored in Communication with a concentration in electronics and visual arts. Currently, a teacher, at a private school in Atlanta, Georgia. Key is always encouraging her students to express themselves through art and to gain an appreciation for art. "I feel very blessed and fortunate to have such a talent to share with the world." The artist currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
