Baba Ra Fudge was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1948 to Neutie and Viola Fudge. He was the eighth of 14 children who were mostly artists. His father was a barber and an entrepreneur. His mother made quilts and all of their children’s clothing. They motivated all their children to be creative. They made almost everything they used. Creativity, imagination, and community service was actively encouraged. Baba Ra attended Arts High School, the first of its kind in the country, after which the movie and television show “Fame” was patterned. Baba Ra is a skilled artist, educator, consultant, writer and motivational speaker. He has been called the “pied piper” because wherever he goes, children know they will find humor and space to create, play, and learn. He has served as program director for the Newark Boys and Girls Club, educational assistant and tour guide with the Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles, a field member of the State of California’s Task Force on Self-Esteem, a certified Children’s Arts Educator, and instructor of meditation. He was Gallery Director of Mid Block Art Service in East Orange, New Jersey at the age of 21, where he co-founded Black Motion Productions, an African American educational and cultural company focusing on dance and media arts. Baba Ra founded Agape Art Gallery, dedicated to promoting artists and unconditional love as a practical lifestyle. He also founded and is President/CEO of GOCARTS Gallery of Creative enhanced Learning Program, a mobile intergenerational program whose motto is “Building Community & World Peace through the Arts.” Baba Ra has developed many innovative workshops focused on personal growth, quality creative work performance, self-esteem, self-transformation, racial inclusion, community building, and self-expression as a dynamic change agent in families and communities. His favorite quote is “Art is long, time is fleeting.” Baba Ra’s works are in private and public collections all over the world. He believes everyone is an artist. “Art is a way of living and being. Everyone can paint on their canvas of life each day and co-create through their thoughts and actions the life they desire.” The artist currently resides in Atlanta, GA.
