Chad Verrill, 34, makes drawings and prints at his home, where he's lived since he arrived in 1992 for a short-lived stint at the Portland School of Art. The sole proprietor of CVIC Works, he's arguably one of Maine's best illustrators and undeniably the state's most intriguing. The works of Chad Verrill successfully married graphic design, incredible draftsmanship, and mixed media in a perfect harmonious union. "I've drawn a lot of inspiration from Art Deco. But I'm also really into the 14th- to 16th-century woodcuts. These people didn't use rulers, they made mistakes. I'm not a monk and I don't have the time to cut it all out of wood. I draw in that style, though, because I like the lines to be thick and then thin and the corners to be screwy. Then again, I do go back with white and make that point on a leaf really pointy to give it that cut feel instead of a pen feel." The artist lives in Portland, Maine.
