O'Brien is an award-winning digital and mixed media collage artist who combines in varying degrees acrylics, mixed media painting, collage, and digital technology. She graduated from Salem State College with a degree in Communications & Graphic Design and embarked on a design career. She has nearly 20 years experience designing print and online graphics. She Began her artistic career in 1997 when she started her own commercial graphic design business, DesignWrite Creative.
