Born 1972 in Portsmouth, England, Samuel David Richard Durkin has been creating art all of his life or at least for the past 30 years. His mother is an artist and tutor, so he was brought up around the making of art. By age 6, he had his first piece in a gallery. However, it only been in the last 10 years that the artist has been working full-time as an artist. "I am what some may call a little strange. I have giant mood swings, sark and ranting one moment and singing, joking the next. I like the surrealist Rene Magritte especially. I very much like H. R. Giger's work, but am not influenced in style by him, just his embrace if the darker side of the mind. Many years ago I did acid, as well as drugs given me by my doctor. Although I no longer take these things, I still have what you would call visual flashback moments and these often enter my work." The artist resides in Southampton, England.
