Submissions

CURRENT SUBMISSIONS
So many wonderous and magical things are taking shape for U*Space that it is hard for us to know where we should begin.

We've revamped our submission policy so that we are in a better position to help showcase an even broader range of artists. Submissions will now be listed as open calls. This means any artist may visit our submission page and see what exhibition projects we are currently accepting work for.

Artists should then follow the simple instructions and wait to hear back from us. If an artist is accepted their name will be added to the exhibit list.

Exhibitions will be listed as CLOSED once we have accepted a number of artists.

Continuing to uphold our mission that original art should not only be accessible visually but financially as well, please note that we do take into consideration the reality of price points when selecting works for exhibition. Each submission will list a price range artist should take into consideration.

Concerning the sales of your artwork, we have retained our not-for-profit pay scale: 70% goes to you the artist & 30% goes to us to cover the expenses of running a public gallery.

Exhibited artists may also be offered the opportunity to show with U*Space on a continual basis through gallery representation.

THE STRANGEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD

Artworks based on unfounded narratives.

In the past, they were called folk or old wives tales. Today we call them urban myths or legends. Some grow larger than life, while others keep a watchful eye on a small group of people who find themselves haunted by them.

We all act as continuums for community & cultural narrations that are all too often never researched or questioned for accuracy or truth. Yet we keep them alive by telling others, who tell others. What is their strange power? We tell them publicly, often at the risk of being made out to be liars. We will often continue telling them, even after their truth is discovered to be unfounded. Why? What is it, that compels us to tell something over and over again? What do we get out of telling it? Do we tell them as a means of spreading propaganda? Could it be that reality is much harder to face, so we use them to mask our own denial? The Strangest Thing I've Ever Heard revisits these tales and allows us for the first time to reexamine their importance or lack there of, in present day society.

ADVISE FOR YOUNG MOTHERS TO BE

Between 1991 and  2005 the teen birth rate decreased 34% to a record low. Between 2005 and 2006 the teen birth rate increased 3%-the first increase in 15 years. The breakdown between teen and adult as begun...

There is something a buzz in the air. Everywhere we turn it seems people are dying to give advise. Whether we want it or not. A stranger at a bus stop. Unsolicited text. Emails. The guy we meet while standing in a line for tickets. Talk shows, the news, magazines, friends, family, coworkers, religious groups, conservatives, liberals, fanatics, even strangers. No matter how we try and shut them out, the advise just keeps a comin' (Some of it good, much of it bad, and some of it just plain ridiculous.) Why this sudden need to expound?

ADVISE FOR YOUNG MOTHERS TO BE gives each artist the chance to interpret the power of giving advise through visuals. Let's face it, our responses are motivated by many different things most of which are personal. So why not add your two cents to the slush pile.

TWENTY-FOUR MOMENTS OF BEING

There are twenty-four hours in a day. Twenty-four frames to a film. Twenty-four frames are needed for one second of film. Cinema Verite literally means “filmed truth” and is a style of film making developed by French film directors in the 1960’s. Cinema verite is a part of the broader artistic tradition of realism and the cinematic tradition of documentary film making.

These realistic traditions are aimed at showing man’s real situation in life rather than at providing him with an escapist Hollywood fantasy experience which and audience will enjoy and pay for, coming out in very large numbers. Cinema verite try's to show man as he is and the world as it is because the film maker often has a social conscience and sometimes a political agenda. Its purpose is to enlighten its audience, to show them the truth as the director sees it, so that the audience will have the information they need to live better lives or to, in some cases, to take political action to right the wrongs the film maker often exposes.

Artists are asked to tell a powerful story using 24 frames (canvas') Please note that each frame can be no larger than 4 x 4 inches.

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to all artists.

All Mediums accepted.

Art work price range: $35 - $1000
