With only machetes and pearing knives they carve the wood and convert the pieces of copal into fantastical colourfull sculptures. Later they sand and finish the sculptures to obtain the perfect texture; once the men have finished, they pass the wood carvings to the painters of the village. With spines and points of the maguey cactus these people give colour and life to the pieces. The alebrijes are painted and decorated artistically, in the colours and forms consistent with the life of the mountains. The alebrijes of this village are distinguished for their extremely delicate and intricate forms and designs.
