Born and raised in Boneville, GA., Smith (who paints under the name Mother) has painted since she was a small child and uses art as a way to physically interpret her dreams and visions and to illustrate her poetry often using common everyday things to create works that are excitingly sincere and interesting. It is this need to express herself rather than worrying about what people are supposedly buying that has drawn art enthusiasts to her work over the years.
Smith and her artwork have been featured in Spokes & Jokes Across the USA by Chuck Dodd and Self Taught Outside & Folk Art: A Guide to American Artist Locations and Resources by Betty-Carol Sellen and Cynthia Johnson. Smith's work can be found in collections worldwide.
The artist resides in Boneville, Georgia.
