Jennifer Perry's ceramic designs are a fusion of individual uniqueness and family tradition. The artist aim's at creating works that reflect her personality - relaxed, simple, feminine; as well echoing strong family memories. To capture the intimate relationship with her viewer, Perry meticulously incorporates small details into her forms such as buttons, pearly dots, and sectional patterns. Perry uses the manipulation of pushing and pulling the clay as if it were fabric, to create her voluminous, billowy forms. "My passion for fabric and patterns started with my grandmothers. "They they would haul me around malls and boutiques to find just the right shirt or jacket to finish an outfit. - Over time, my mother and father became avid collectors of beautiful tapestries and antique furniture. I think this too, has had an influence on my work. I definately want my pieces to be comfortable enough to be used everyday. Yet elegant and extraordinarily graceful, like an antique, for special occasions. I hope to capture the love of my family and the great generosity everyone possesses in my forms. I want my pottery to be as charming as my father, as sweet as my mother and as kind as my grandparents. As one grandmother has passed, her obsession with beautiful things lives through me. Not only through shopping, that will never die, but also through clay. As I shape the clay and impress patterns into the surface, memories of my family are created and forever locked into time through my ceramic forms."
