When I started this project earlier this year, my goal was simply to document the work of graffiti artists here in Atlanta, Georgia. But as I began to move around the city something quite amazing started taking shape. To paraphrase the song 'Amazing Grace' - "I was blind but now I see."
And see I did, taking pictures on a daily basis, helped raise my awareness of the many messages placed through out the city anonymously. Some of them intentional and others not. The more comfortable I got the wider my 'third eye' became. My curiosity was insatiable. As human's we are always drawn to understanding and what was so amazing for me is that these very public forms of communication were for the most part undecipherable. Who created them and why? What did the maker really want to say and to whom?
Beauty is often found in the most unexpected places. Often, much too subtle for us to fully appreciate. When viewing these images try to listen to what they have to say. But even more important, try to see their beauty,
some of which was man made, where as others was helped along in the creative process by nature. These are the moments I hope to always cherish - The ones that appear to us, sometimes delicately, sometimes fleetingly. I'm so glad I was able to stop and smell the coffee.
Feel free to drop me line and let me know what you think,
Terence
